When Transparency Fails: A Hard Line on Medical Care

Recently, I encountered a medical care situation that escalated into a serious medical crisis.

The care plan presented to me did not ultimately align with documented veterinary guidance.

When clinical symptoms emerged indicating potential instability, I contacted the prescribing clinic directly to clarify the treatment protocol. That verification process revealed discrepancies between what had been communicated and what had been medically established.

The case progressed to a life-threatening condition and required emergency veterinary intervention.

This condition did not develop casually. It developed when communication gaps and inconsistent medical alignment created instability. Medical management requires verification, consistency, and strict adherence to documented protocols.

What This Changed for Me

This experience reinforced something critical:

In medical cases, verbal assurances are not enough.

Effective immediately:

• I will not accept once-daily visits for insulin-dependent pets.

• Insulin must be administered according to a verified 12-hour veterinary schedule.

• I require written veterinary confirmation of dosage and frequency before accepting diabetic cases.

• Owners must authorize direct communication with their veterinarian.

• Feeding protocols must align with documented veterinary guidance.

If these requirements are not met, I will decline the booking.

This is not about being inflexible. It is about medical integrity.

Why This Matters

Medical management is not simply administering medication.

It is ongoing assessment:

• Is the pet eating appropriately?

• Is water intake increasing or decreasing?

• Is elimination excessive or abnormal?

• Is vomiting present?

• Is behavior changing?

When visits are spaced too far apart, early warning signs can escalate between check-ins. Conditions can develop rapidly and require immediate medical care.

There is no room for shortcuts in complex medical cases.

Professional Boundaries

Clear, accurate communication regarding veterinary involvement is essential when a pet’s health is at stake.

Going forward, I will verify directly with the prescribing clinic and receive instructions in writing before accepting complex medical sits.

Transparency protects the pet. Verification protects everyone.

Moving Forward

This case was serious. It was sobering. And it sharpened my standards.

As professional pet sitters, we are not veterinary technicians. But we are often the eyes monitoring pets between appointments. That responsibility demands diligence, documentation, and the courage to say no when necessary.

Because in pet care, consistency is not a preference.

It is survival.

The House Kat Pet Sitting will always choose the animal first.

Always.
